A long time has passed since I last updated this page! I have been busy painting a series of paintings about roads. A few of them can be seen on the oils page. Below is one of the paintings I am currently working on: Los Angeles.
This weekend you are in for festive art treat. As well as Brooklyn Studios Winter Opening there is the Northlights Festive Fare and an exhibition (27 artists) at Artsmill. Come and enjoy beautiful art, mulled wine and cider, friendly chat & a chance to buy a gift or two.
The cup handles stayed on in the Glaze firing. The Glaze is pale blue stoneware. I think they have come out quiet well for a first attempt. The two small vases have been made with a groggy clay and fired to stoneware temperature with a turquoise barium glaze. This glaze works best with a groggy glaze, the orange band comes out darker than on other clays. The Green and brown vases have two different glazes, Robins egg and Copper ore. These glazes should react with each other to produce a third effect, I need to experiment further with this.
Well a month has past so I am thinking about changing this to a piece of art a month! I have started working on a new stained glass piece which involves cutting circles, this is harder than it looks. I managed to cut a few circles out whole but when I tried to cut a smaller circle out of the centre of a larger circle disaster.... I will still use the pieces and mask the break so all is not lost.
I found this rather nice bowl in my box of ceramic work, I had to re-fire it as the glaze crystallised, I love the shape so I will be making more of these. We went up to Edinburgh for our "summer" holiday and went to a fantastic Sunday market in Stockbridge which was very colourful. I discovered a great art shop and bought some inktense blocks the picture today is my first experiment using them. I have also uploaded a photo of the paella before it was cooked as it was so lovely to look at.
They worked! Two cups with Handles came out of the kiln. I have glazed them and they will be fired again in the next couple of weeks, I will put the final results up here then.

AuthorI have been impressed by the 'Painting a day' blogs and thought I would challenge myself to make some art every day. I will post a mixture of drawings, ceramics, glasswork, photographs and paintings. Archives
